It’s Not Always About You…
If you want a continuous stream of Traffic to your website, Blog, or Profile you Need to be More Social and less Selfish.
The people who have subscribed to my email List, Newsletters, etc… are my Friends, Not Clients, Not Customers, Certainly Not Sheep (which is the way some marketers describe their List). They Brag about How they can send a promotion to their “Sheep”, who will immediately buy whatever they are selling. Some Affiliate Marketers are the Worst. They view people as an End to Their Means. They see these people as Potential Income.
We should never be so Bold as to consider that we may have people “in our pocket”. Real relationships are built on Trust and Mutual Bonds… Not Money. If you ever consider your List, Followers or Connections as Cash-Cows… you are in for an eventual surprise.
People are amazingly good at reading the thoughts and intentions of Internet Marketers. You may fool them once or twice… maybe even a third time… but if you are Using and Abusing your Internet Network of “Friends”, they will soon figure out what you are about and what you are up to.
What a disappointment it is to Follow or Friend someone who convinces you that they have your best interest in mind, only to discover that they are using you for their own selfish desire to yank the money out of your pockets. And once you’ve been burned by a marketer, if you’re like me, you will never buy a single product or service from them again. No Matter How Good their Offer or Opportunity may be. As an Internet or Affiliate Marketer, we should always keep this foremost in our mind and hearts. How many times have you been Scammed? How many times has someone made Fantastic Promises to you concerning a new product or service, you fall for it, only to find that you have been burned?
I must put in a few words here for sincere affiliate marketers who simply are ignorant about the product or service they are selling. They are convinced of the Value of what they are selling, but many times, people just feel scammed, when a product does not deliver the way it was advertised… we have no control over such things, but we must continually strive to know our products, and promote them in a way that will Never leave someone feeling Ripped-Off. Especially if your primary method of Traffic, Leads and Sales comes from Social Media.
Life is always about balance. We must learn to be content with what God has Blessed us with, while Never Settling for anything except His Best Blessings. The Apostle Paul knew what he was talking about when he said that “he had learned to be content” but at the same time he was always striving for the Excellency of the High Calling in Christ. Even in prison, Paul was able to be content, while striving to make other peoples lives more excellent. As Christians, we call upon the common bond of Christ when we interact with one another, and this places the needs of others above our own selfish desires.
We should follow the same example of Contentment while Striving for Excellence as we put together our promotions and assemble our advertising. For example:
Let’s pretend that you have been working like a deranged dog to market and advertise a product, service or opportunity (not much of a stretch for the imagination, if you know what I mean). You may feel that you are now entitled to a days pay for a days work. It’s only reasonable… Right? Have you ever been disappointed or even angry with God, because you have worked so hard on a project (perhaps days, perhaps months, or maybe even more), but you still haven’t earned a single dime in Sales or Commissions. This is indeed disappointing, and that’s why the failure rate of Online marketers is so huge. Here’s the Good News… You may be down, but you are definitely not out…
The promise of God’s Word is that when we work hard (sow seeds), we will receive our Fruit in due season (the harvest)… What does that mean? It is the promise that if you have worked hard and you have strived for excellence, with a right heart and desire to enrich the lives of others, He will eventually Reward us with a Bumper Crop. Farmers work 16 to 20 hour days throughout the years, sometimes there is crop failure do to lack of rain, infestation, or some other unforeseen force of nature… but every so many years, there comes a Bumper Crop! A Huge Harvest when the price for their crop is at an all-time high. Even though they barely survived for 1, 2 or 3 years… Now comes enough “Fruit” or crop to enrich their lives for a couple of years to come.
If you market to Social Media, you should always remember that People are more important than Products… Your Reputation is worth far more than a Single Sale. Throughout this economic crisis, many marketers have been tempted to Over-Hype, Over-Exaggerate and Over-Sell… but this approach will ultimately come back to bite us.
Be Patient, and be content. With the help of those whom you have befriended on the Internet, you will eventually reap a Bumper-Crop of Traffic, Leads and Sales. Not making a sale does not make you a failure. Whether or not we have made a Sale “Today”, or not, does not matter in the grand scheme of things. If you worked hard and did your very best to enrich the lives of others… be content with their Trust and Friendship… You will reap your reward in due season.
Be Content when you make connections and Friendships through Social Media, while always striving for excellence. God never promised that we would get everything we selfishly desire… He promised that our needs would be met… and that if we delight ourselves in what is right, good honest and true, he will occasionally Bless us with “the delights of our Heart”. And every so often, He Blesses us with a Bumper-Crop!
Marketing to Social Media as a means to get Traffic, Leads and Sales means that some days are Traffic days… some days are Lead days... and then comes the Sale days. Therefore, be Content to get through the day with the Help and Friendships that can only be achieved through Social Media Marketing. There are going to be days when you will use every Social Media Traffic Trick you know… and hardly see any results. But if you are persistent and always striving for that which is of eternal importance, you will receive your payment in due season. You are only a Failure when you Quit… or when you give in to the temptation and Abuse your Friends and Followers.
Even if you only made one good friend today, it was worth all of your effort. Who knows how much business that one small friend may be able to refer to you, when the harvest finally comes and a hoard of Traffic suddenly overwhelms your server.
Thank you for being my Friends and subscribers. My life is made rich through our friendship and I will ever strive to keep your best interest at heart.
May God Bless you with Wealth and Abundance (according to His Promises),
Charles Beason
